This is a Sheet Metal Jewelry. The pendant is made from copper sheet and copper wire. Let’s get started.

We continue the theme of using copper plates to create jewelry in the Wire Wrapping technique. In previous posts “How do you set a cabochon? DIY pendant with a stone“, “Sheet Metal Jewelry” we have already used copper plates. Today we will consider one more method of fastening on the plate without soldering.
It’s not a secret that copper is the most popular metal being used for jewelry making. For work we will need: a copper plate 0.6 mm thick, copper wire 1 mm for a base, copper wire 0.4 mm for a braid and cabochon of any size.
Use appropriate wire thickness. I make jewelry of wire 1 mm (18 ga) and 0.4 mm (26 ga) thick. You can use wire with a thickness of 0.8 mm (20 ga) and 0.3 mm (28 ga).
Let’s get started.

Wire weaving is not that difficult as you may think. It has many similarities with basket weaving. The whole process is very easy – you just need to take several thin wires and weave them around the thick ones. Thus, you can create different pretty patterns.

So, today I’m going to use copper wire. I used two types of wire. The first one is 1 mm (18ga) – it is perfect for frames. The second one is 0.4 mm (26 ga) – it suits for weaving. It is thin, so the weaving will be very neat.
Or there is another way. You can use 0.8 mm (20 ga) wire and 0.3 mm (28 ga) wire. The first one is for frames and the second one is for weaving.

I like to age jewelry. I also like to patinate the wire and then polish it.
There are many ways to patinate the wire. For example, the sulfuric liver can be used. You can buy and use ready-made solutions for blackening the wire.
I often use ammonia to patinate copper wire. In Russia, bottles of ammonia are sold in pharmacies. I pour ammonia into a glass jar. I hang the product over the ammonia solution. The decoration must not touch the surface of the ammonia! After a few minutes, the copper begins to darken and takes on a beautiful brown color.
Observe safety precautions while working with ammonia!

For my jewelry I use only natural wire (copper, nickel silver, bronze, brass, silver). I patinate jewelry with wire with special solutions and polish with felt circles using polishing pastes. Sometimes, so that the wire does not darken over time, I coat the metal with a special varnish.
