Handmade wire jewelry. Pendants made of copper wire and black opal cabochon.
For hundreds of years, professional jewelers have used a wide variety of frames to hold gemstones on jewelry. But recently such an interesting technique as wire wrapping has become quite popular. Rather than using a bezel, the stones are fixed on a jewelry with a thin wire. One of the great things about this technique is that it is very easy to learn. It is also a very affordable option as it only requires a few inexpensive tools and materials.
Wire Wrapped Pendant. How to make a Pendant – Idea.
This is NOT a detailed Wire wrap tutorial! I want to show you pendant made of wire and cabochon for an example – how to fix the cabochon with wire.
You’ll Need Jewelry Making Pliers.
1) Flat Nose Pliers
2) Wire Cutters
3) Optional Round Nose Pliers
Nylon jaw chain nose pliers are a very useful tool for anyone who does a lot of wire working.
Use appropriate wire thickness.
I make jewelry of wire 1 mm (18 ga) wire for the frames and 0.4 mm (26 ga) thick wire for the weaving.
You can use wire with a thickness of 0.8 mm (20 ga) wire for the frames and 0.3 mm (28 ga) wire for the weaving.

Black opal cabochon – 30 x 40 mm
For all jewelry, I make spheres at the ends of the wire. You’ll need a gas burner to make balloons. I use the most available one. I bought it at the store with a gas cylinder.
