Many people are fond of creative work. Creating beautiful handmade crafts and jewelry is not only a pleasant pastime but also a way to express yourself, surprise your family and friends, make unique handmade gifts for them. Over time, when you become a skillful craftsman, you can also sell your handmade products profitably.
One of the most popular types of creativity is the creation of jewelry from baked polymer clay. It is also called plastic. Polymer clay is similar to plasticine, but unlike it, it hardens when baked at a certain temperature in an ordinary oven.
Do you want to try your hand at this kind of creativity? Today I will tell you how you can make polymer clay leaves with your own hands. The lesson is not difficult at all – even for a beginner. Today we will make a pendant – a birch leaf made of polymer clay.

Polymer clay leaves made with your own hands.
Take the clay and knead it well in your hands. The clay should be soft so that all the small veins of the leaf can be printed on it.
Roll out the polymer clay with a rolling pin on the tile and make a layer no thicker than 2 mm.
Choose the leaf you like. My choice was a birch leaf. Place the inside of the leaf on the clay. Roll the rolling pin over the leaf and clay. Press on the birch leaf so that it leaves a print on the clay.
Carefully separate the leaf from the polymer clay.
Polymer clay is an amazing material! All the smallest details of the leaf can be easily printed on the clay.
Take a sharp thin knife and cut right on the tile along the contour of the birch leaf.
Take your time and do everything carefully. The fewer imperfections you leave, the less you have to fix after baking. It’s true that I’m far from perfect myself. But I’m striving for that goal. So, try to make your polymer clay leaves perfect.
Baking polymer clay.
If you want to make a flat leaf, you can bake it just like this, right on the tile. I decided to make a curved leaf and placed it on crumpled foil. I also use it to bake beads on toothpicks.
To achieve the desired shape of the leaf I made kind of supports from toothpicks.
The time and temperature of baking polymer clay are shown on the package. Preheat the oven to the desired temperature. My temperature is 130 degrees Celsius. Place the product approximately in the middle, between the heating elements above and below. I bake polymer clay for 30 minutes.
After baking it in the oven, allow the clay to cool at room temperature. And your polymer clay leaves are almost done
Necklace with a polymer clay leaves.
You need to drill a hole in the leaf in order to insert a ring of wire into it. I usually drill with help of a small hand drill.
If necessary, coat the product with varnish – then dry it. Insert the ring in the hole.
Prepare the materials for the necklace. I used a flat suede cord and jewelry fittings: clamps, connecting rings and a carabiner.
First, attach the clamp on one side of the suede cord.
Then attach the second clamp.
Attach rings and a carabiner.
It’s done!
And this is a currant leaf necklace made of polymer clay.
Good luck with your work!
