Today we will make a pendant from a natural agate stone, copper wire and copper plate. The stone will be fixed on the copper plate. Today I will show you one of my favourite Wire weaving tutorials free.

In previous lessons, I have shown you something similar. I made pendants with stones that were attached to a metal plate. And today we will work with plates and wire as well – we will create another cute pendant with our own hands. So, stay tuned and read my Wire weaving tutorials free till the end.

As I said, we will use a copper plate that is about 1 mm thick. The copper plate is quite soft and easy to cut with small metal scissors. The copper plate is easy to grind and polish at home.

We will also need a cabochon stone. A thin cabochon is best. It is easier to fix it with prongs on the plate. I recommend using natural stones for your jewelry. As a last resort, you can use glass for wire jewelry.

For this pendant, I used 0.8 mm thick natural copper wire for the base and 0.3 mm thick wire for the weaving. The wire is thin and soft, so it is not easy to work with, especially for those who have poor eyesight like me.

In most of my Wire weaving tutorials free, I use 1mm thick natural copper wire for the base and 0.4mm for the weaving. But I think that such thick wire probably will not suit such a small pendant. It will be difficult to bend it neatly on the copper plate.

To make a pendant with a stone, we will need tools.

I like my Wire weaving tutorials free because following them, you don’t need a lot of tools. A small set of hand tools for working with wire is enough for us.

We will need metal scissors to cut the copper plate.
We also will need grinding and polishing tools.

Place the stone cabochon on the plate. Then take a marker and draw a line around the cabochon, but place the marker about 5-7 mm away from the cabochon – it is very important.

Take metal scissors and cut out the drawn shape. Put the stone on the plate.

Then mark on the metal plate the future clips (prongs) for the cabochon – they should be about 3-5 mm wide.

Add 1 – 2 mm to the prongs’ width (measure by eye) and cut the metal.

Take a hammer and straighten the plate on the anvil.

Put the cabochon on the metal plate (hold it firmly) and bend the prongs, but not all the way.

Next, we can put the stone away and work with the metal plate. Round off the prongs, grind the whole plate and use a sanding tool.

Place the stone in place and bend the prongs.

This is where you can stop. You can drill a hole in the plate at the top of the pendant. Insert a ring of wire for a cord or chain. Polish the metal and the pendant is ready! But I like to add something interesting to my Wire weaving tutorials free, so let’s continue.

So, we will continue to create the pendant and complement it with woven wire. I took two pieces of wire thickness of 0.8 mm and a length of 50 cm each. I weaved with a thin wire with a thickness of 0.3 mm. You can use any method of weaving

Start attaching the weaving to the metal plate on top of the pendant.

Put the weaving around the edge of the stone. When you reach the prongs, place the weaving to the back side. Then make a loop and return to the front side.

Follow the edge of the stone up to the next prong. Then when you reach the next prong, bring it again to the back side. Make a loop and return to the front side. Once again, do the same thing.

It should look something like this.

Then weave four wires together and make a loop for a cord or chain.

I used an art brush to bend the weaving evenly.

Separate the weaving on the reverse side. One pair should be attached to the wire loops.

I like to patinate copper, I like to give a vintage look to copper jewelry. You can notice, that I use patination in almost all my Wire weaving tutorials free. The reason is that it gives my jewelry an astonishing look.

I patinated the copper in ammonia vapor. Then polished the copper using felt circles with polishing paste. I also added a copper chain to my jewelry.
