Today we will create a pendant made of copper wire and labrador cabochon.
I’ve spent my entire life making jewelry. I’ve been making wire jewelry for more than 20 years and I don’t want to keep this information to myself. That is why I create videos on how to make wire jewelry. Thus, I’ll be able to share everything I’ve learned with my students.
If you’re new to wire work, I’ll walk you through the steps to mastering this technique. It can be used to make lovely jewelry pieces and accessories. My lessons will also appeal to experienced craftsmen. I’ll show you my one-of-a-kind creations. It’s possible that you’ll enjoy them and want to replicate it. As a result, you’ll be able to come up with new ideas for your projects.
Table of Contents
Wire wrap tutorials for beginners. We need the following items for work:
Copper wire 1 mm thick – five pieces 40-50 cm long. Usually I use a longer wire length than is actually required. It will be very sad if there is not enough wire to finish the work on the decoration. On the other hand, cutting off the extra 5 cm of wire is easy and not expensive.
Prepare a lot of 0.4 mm thin wire for weaving. You never know in advance how much wire will be required for winding.
Thick Labrodor Cabochon. I have a really thick cabochon, so I had to take five wires to secure it. You should calculate the amount of base wire according to the thickness of your cabochon.
Wire wrap tutorials for beginners. Now, let’s move to wire wrapping tools.
First, you’ll need Jewelry Making Pliers and you will also need:
1) A pair of Flat Nose Pliers
2) A pair of Wire Cutters
3) Optional Round Nose Pliers will be extremely useful
4) Nylon jaw chain nose pliers are an essential tool for everyone who works with wire.
Silicone-tipped pliers, in my opinion, are the way to go. They make wire weaving a lot easier.

Use a strip of paper to measure the Labrador cabochon. Wrap a strip of paper around the cabochon and mark the size with a pencil.
Weave the wire as shown in the photo. We will need free space of wire from the weaving at the top and bottom in order to attach the cabochon. You will soon figure it out for yourself when you look at the following photos.
Crimp the cabochon tightly over the finished weaving.
As you can see, the cabochon no longer needs to be attached on top. The loose wire slides slightly over the cabochon and prevents it from falling forward. We will also fix the cabochon on the other side. Bend the wire as shown in the photo.
Try on the cabochon. The cabochon should be held securely in this weaving.
Now we have to weave two wires together. There will be 5 pairs in total. Use any weaving technique.
Weave the first pair together.
On the other side, we will do the same.
Let’s continue to weave the wire.
Bend this pair of wires carefully as shown in the photo.
We place the weaving on the back.
Weave another pair together. We should also bend it and place it on the back of the pendant.
Bend the ends of the wires nicely and connect them together. Cut off the excess wire and round off the ends of the wires as shown in the photo.
We should do the same with the following pairs of wires.
We should do everything one by one. Be as careful as possible. We fasten the ends with a thin wire. Tuck them under the previous weaving.
And finally, here comes the last pair.
We should fasten it in the same way.
Using the remaining pair of wires, we will make an eyelet for a cord or chain. Next bend the weaving, bite off the excess wire and fasten it.
I like giving my jewelry a vintage look. I patinate the copper wire first and polish it after that. I use special solutions for patination. I use a sander for polishing. I also use felt mugs and special polishing pastes.
In order to prevent the darkening of the coper, I cover it with a special transparent varnish for metals.
Conclusion
I have thousands of students around the world. However, since I do not speak any other languages, I have to rely on translators. I don’t let the fact that I don’t speak other languages stop me from creating educational websites, giving free lessons, and making items for online stores in various languages. You can find me on Facebook, Pinterest, Instagram, and Twitter.
