I use a natural copper wire with a thickness of 1 mm for the base (frame) and 0.4 mm for the weaving. You can use any wire you wish.

To create most of the jewelry on this blog, we need a small set of hand tools. Of course, later, when you want to make more complicated wire jewelry you will need to buy a few more special tools. But for the first time, this set of hand tools will be enough for you.

We need a piece of 1 mm thick wire about 20 – 30 cm long. The length of the piece depends on the size of your future pendant. I have to be honest with you – I always take a longer length of wire than I actually need. So to speak, I need to be sure that length will be enough. I very rarely repeat my jewelry designs. I am constantly making something new. The ideas for jewelry designs come to me as I am working. And I can not know exactly how much wire I might need.

And today I am also making a new wire wrapped heart pendant. The length of my wire is about 30 cm.
First of all, draw a sketch of your wire wrapped heart pendant. In my photos, one square on the piece of paper is 5 mm.

At one end of the wire we make a loop. When the pendant is ready, we will put a chain or a cord through this loop. So make the size of the loop according to your needs.

Next, we will bend the wire according to our sketch.

I bent the wire with my hands. Sometimes I help myself with tools. You should use metal tools carefully. You can easily scratch the wire. If this happens, you need to sand down and polish the scratches later.

We will need a bead with a hole for this wire wrapped heart pendant. I have a bead 6 mm in diameter.

The last circle of wire should be the same size as the bead.

Bend the wire for a bead as shown in the photo. The end of the wire should be at about 45 degrees so that it is possible to place the bead on the wire.

Then put the bead on the wire and bend the wire with the bead inside. The bead will not fall off the wire. It will be fixed.

Now we need a thin wire thickness of 0.4 mm. Next, weave the base of the pendant.

Then we patinate the wire and polish it. Attach a chain or cord and…it’s done.
Notice how I made the weaving in the second version.

And without a detailed description, it is clear to you that I used both ends of the wire to design the pendant. Let’s go straight to the next wire wrapped heart pendant.

The materials and tools used are the same as in previous versions.
Bend the wire into the shape of a heart as shown in the photo.

The additional wire element must be freely positioned inside the frame.

Start weaving with thin wire from the bottom of a heart-shaped frame.

Weave and bind (connect) all the parts.

Weave the whole shape. Then cut off the excess thin wire. Add a loop for a cord or chain.

I usually patinate natural copper wire and then polish it. I really like the way the jewelry looks after such a procedure. It looks like the jewelry became much older. In addition, copper has many beautiful shades that appear after patinating and polishing.

Special solutions can be used for patination. Be sure to read the instructions before use.
I polish with grinders with special felt tips. I use polishing pastes. All of them can be purchased in stores.

To prevent copper from darkening over time, (and it’s bound to happen) I sometimes cover the piece with a special colorless varnish.
If you do not want to use varnish, you will have to renew the jewelry after some time. Additionally, you will need to polish the wire.
Of course, if you are using wire, which is not getting darker, you don’t need all the processes described above.

That is all for today. Good luck with your work!
