Materials and Tools.
Today we will make a ring together with you from copper wire and a cabochon from a stone without a hole. My wire wrapped ring tutorial has many photos and is very comprehensible.
We will use copper wire with a thickness of 1 mm for the base and a thickness of 0,4 mm for weaving. We are going to fix the cabochon with Viking weaving. Our today’s natural stone cabochon is 30 x 15 mm.

For work, we need a small set of hand tools.
Fixing the cabochon with the Viking weaving.
We need two 1 mm thick copper wires about 30-40 cm each. We will use a thin copper wire to weave. Its thickness is 0.4 mm.
The thick wire should be bent in the middle as shown in the photo. Connect the thick wires on both sides using thin wire.
The wire shape should be slightly smaller than the cabochon.
Next, start weaving the cabochon. I usually take a piece of thin wire about 3 m for this. Fasten the end of the wire to the base and make the first loop.
Then the second loop.
Try to make the loops about the same. Continue to make loops all the way around the base.
Further loops will be attached not to the thick wire, but to the previous loops of thin wire.
Try the cabochon on the weaving. The loops should be peeking out from behind the cabochon. If your loops don’t look out from behind the cabochon, make extra loops around.
Take a cabochon with a wire in your hands. Hold it firmly.
Continue making loops. The loops should lie on the cabochon.
Make loops all over the cabochon.
This is not enough for the cabochon to hold firmly in the weaved wire. Once again make loops around the cabochon.
If you think it is necessary, make the loops one more time. This way you will not spoil or damage anything, but the stone will be fixed harder. This is the main secret of my wire wrapped ring tutorial.
Slip the thin wire under the loops.
Lower the wire with which we fastened the shape. Start weaving the two thick wires in any weaving method.

We need four more pieces of thick 1mm wire. In the middle, weave them together to the size of your ring.
Bend the finished weaving on the wooden piece as shown in the photo. Now is a good time to think about the size of the ring.
Secure with the same weaved wire as in the photo.
Bend again. Cut off the excess wire.
Place the fixed cabochon on top.
Weave the wires together. Weave the wire from the cabochon with the wire base of the ring. Connect them. There are four weavings in total. Thus, we attached the cabochon to the ring. This is the most difficult stage in my wire wrapped ring tutorial. Now, there is little left to do.
Next, bend the weavings in any shape you want. I did as in the photo below.
You can use your imagination and make weaving patterns much better than mine. We have already done the most important thing in my wire wrapped ring tutorial – we fixed the cabochon without a hole on the ring.
You can make many different rings by using this way of attaching the stone.

I cut the single wire in the middle and bent it inside the ring. On the other side, I did the same thing.
Examine carefully – cut off the excess wire.
We just need to neatly hide the ends of the wire. Use a thin wire to connect (sew) the weaving to the base of the ring so the ends don’t dangle.
Examine the ring, correct the flaws.

I patinate (make it look old) almost all my copper items. And then I polish and sometimes varnish them so that the copper does not darken further.
Recently I have patinated almost all copper wire jewelry in ammonia vapor. I pour ammonia into a glass jar with an iron lid. I make a small hole in the lid beforehand, so that a thin wire can pass through it.
Hang your jewelry on the wire over the solution. After some time, copper darkens and becomes a beautiful brown color. If you keep the copper in ammonia vapor for a long time, the copper will turn black.
Make the copper look the desired color and take the product out of the jar. Then proceed to polish.
I polish with special electric machines with felt tips. I also use polishing pastes.
After polishing, I wash it with soap and running water. I use a toothbrush.
Then I dry the jewelry and, if necessary, cover it with a special colorless varnish for metal. That is the end of our wire wrapped ring tutorial.
