Chain Nose Pliers have a flat inner edge and a rounded outer edge, making these a very versatile tool perfect for multiple jewellery making tasks.
I’ll be telling you what you need to know about chain nose pliers, how to use them, and how to choose the right ones. Chain nose pliers are one of your most basic and useful tools when you’re making jewelry. Now, the difference between these and needle nose pliers that you would find at any hardware store, is that the jaws are smooth. They don’t have those serrated ridges, because although the serrated ridges are certainly helpful for grabbing onto things, they would mar your wire as you work with it. So you always want to make sure that the pliers that you have, have smooth insides. Also, for chain nosed pliers, they should have tapered tips, and this edge should be rounded. It’s very useful for making bends, like with wire you can grasp it, and then you get a nice crisp bend there.
These are also often used for opening and closing jump rings and for tucking in wire ends after you’ve wire wrapped them to make sure that there are no wire ends poking skin, or catching hair or clothing. You want to make sure when you choose a pair of chain nose pliers that they fit comfortably in your hands because like I said, they’re a basic supply in jewelry making, and you’ll be using them a lot.
Curved chain nose pliers

With flush cutters, it’s just what the name says, you get one side that gives you a flush cut. When you cut, this edge is nice and flat and straight, and this one has a bit of a point to it. It’s been pinched. That’s something you always want to remember when you use your flush cutters is that the side that you want to be flush you have to have your cutters facing in that direction. If you’re going to re-cut the wire, you may need to turn the wire and then cut off that pointed edge again.

Wire Wrapped pendants are always popular and fun to make. You can wear them or give them as gifts. In this tutorial I’m going to show you how to make a Wire Wrapped pendant.
To start with, all you need is a little wire in any color and a set of pliers
The wire is, of course, one of the most important supplies when it comes to making wire-wrapped jewelry. It comes in various materials, gauges and strengths, and choosing what you need can be a bit overwhelming. Copper wire is the most common and affordable option, so it is perfect for beginners.
Copper is a popular choice for making jewelry for many reasons. It is a beautiful color and has many possibilities for lovely patinas, is easy to work with, and it is relatively inexpensive to purchase. Most jewelry suppliers should have a wide variety of copper wire sizes, shapes, and tempers to choose from. Copper is slightly softer than sterling silver, but for the most part is still comparable. Copper is often recommended as a great material for beginners who would like to practice working with wire before graduating to the more expensive sterling silver option.

Once you know how to achieve the basic weaves, you can do so much with wire work. It is really simple when you know how.
I used 1 mm wire for the frames and 0.4 mm wire for the weaving as this helps to keep the weaving neat.
My tips:
Use appropriate wire thickness.
I make jewelry of wire 1 mm (18 ga) wire for the frames and 0.4 mm (26 ga) thick wire for the weaving.
You can use wire with a thickness of 0.8 mm (20 ga) wire for the frames and 0.3 mm (28 ga) wire for the weaving.
Tension is important when weaving. Too tight and you will pull your frame wires out of shape, but too loose and your weaving will be uneven.
Constantly tighten and snug your wire wraps as you go because if you wait too long and try to tighten out slack it will be very difficult to work your way back to the loose spot. Be sure to tighten everything up after every 2-3 wraps.
When you have finished weaving, trim the weaving wire at the back of the piece, and secure by pressing firmly against a frame wire with flat nose pliers.
Avoid kinks in your weaving wire by catching them before they form. Gently untwist the wire before it is pulled tight.
